Cable! I missed you!

We finally have our normal internet connection back!  I did not realize how much I depended on it for communication within church and school groups, for bill paying, for occupying John for a few minutes with youtube while I'm pulling hot pans from the oven, for a mini-break in the middle of the day.  I'm trying to get back into blogging more regularly now that I can.

So for the past year or so I thought that my husband and children had a horrible case of blurriness and slightly fuzzy edges.  Then it spread to everyone else I knew and even to inanimate objects like street signs and books.  So, yeah, check me out.

I always wanted glasses and now that I need them and have a glasses grabbing baby I'm slightly less excited.  I still think I look smart, though.

Post Hurricane Ike

We're fine, we've been incredibly blessed.  We only lost power for an hour an a half overnight.  The wind woke John up, but Pete slept through the entire thing.  We were having the power cut in and out, so we made John the flashlight warden, telling us "Flashlights on!" and "Flashlights off!"  He was quite happy with his job and even started doing shadow dances in front of our Maglights.

Then we became Hurricane Hotel for some of our friends without power.  Counting us there were 10 adults, 5 kids and 3 babies here -- it felt like summer camp.  Everyone brought over their frozen food and we ate big communal dinners.  One of the kids was already planning what we could do for the next hurricane.  I think we'll have to host big family potlucks so they're not waiting for natural disasters.

The funny thing is that the weekend before the hurricane we bought that futon in the background, so we had another real bed for someone to sleep on.  Talk about good timing!

I've also finished all the knitting for the shop sample I'm doing.  Hopefully I'll be able to finish that this week since school and work are still canceled for everyone around here due to lack of power.

So, everyone, hug your families and get your disaster supplies ready.  Hopefully your bottled water and batteries will sit unused, but you'll be so glad you have them if the need strikes.
